Failure rate

A measurement, in percentage, of the total number of defects detected divided by the total number of samples observed.

Example, if you have 50 defects out of 100 samples, then…

 50 / 100 = 0.5 or 50% (percent).

This rate is associated with the acceptable quality level, (AQL), and mean time between failures, (MTBF), but may also be related to mean time to failure (MTTF). Products could be tested using an accelerated life test, (ALT). External Failures are sometimes measured.
