DOE – Design of Experiments

Design of experiments is a tool used with six sigma in the DMAIC, (define, measure, analyze, improve, control), programs among others.

The use of any statistical techniques, including SPC, (statistical process control) to evaluate performance using experimentation to find the most important variables that affect the quality of a product, process, or service.

  • Classify all the design, process, or procedure variables that apply the most influence on the desired design, process, or procedure reaction.
  • Explore interactions between variables in a design, process, or procedure.
  • Evaluate variables in a design, process, or procedure to decide if they are different.
  • Explore any relationships between any of the variables and their reactions sometimes using tools such as correlation coefficient or scatter plots.
